Australian Artesian Water is sourced in Moree in north west New South Wales. It comes from the Great Artesian Basin that underlies one fifth of Australia’s landmass.
Artesian water was discovered in 1878 when a shallow bore was sunk near Bourke in New South Wales producing hot free flowing water under pressure. The dictionary meaning of artesian is “a perpendicular bore through horizontal layers producing free flowing water.”
In Moree the first bore was sunk in 1895, and its high mineral content and beneficial qualities were immediately recognized. People have been coming to Moree ever since to “take the waters” that are now world renowned. The bore for Australian Artesian Water was sunk in 1908 and is 985 meters deep. Australian Artesian Water, is an artesian water that has high levels of natural Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) and Ions. Which have been absorbed into the water from the permeable sandstones from which the water is being tapped. When artesian water comes from artesian bores that have been flowing for a while, it can be anything up to 44-45 C.
It comes up out of the ground as clear and clean as you see it in the bottle. It is a soft tasting mineral rich water and therefore does have a flavour and a taste, in the European tradition that immediately sets it apart from the predominately pure and spring waters commercially available, that usually have a far lower TDS and pH.
Australian Artesian Water is available as both a still and carbonated water. Still is available as a 600 ml bottle in cartons of 24 or a 10 litre fridgepack. The sparkling is only available as a 330 ml glass bottle in cartons of 24.
